Jana knew that she wanted to be a lawyer, and in particular, a litigator, from a young age and made a conscious effort to develop her skills in oral and written advocacy and analytical reasoning.  In high school, she enjoyed debating and had the opportunity to represent Saskatchewan at both the Western and National Debating seminars.  She received the Governor General’s award at Balfour Collegiate, graduating at the top of her class.  She also received a number of scholarships to attend the University of Regina, including the University of Regina Scholars Program scholarship which funded her tuition for her four years of undergraduate study.

In 2000, Jana received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Regina with Great Distinction, with a major in English Literature and a Minor in Political Science.  In her graduating year, she received the Royal Society of St. George and Torville Scholarships for excellence in English.

Following graduation from the University of Regina, Jana went on study law at the University of Toronto Faculty of law, graduating with her LL.B. in 2003 with Honours in the top 10% of her class.  While in Law School, Jana participated in trial advocacy, moot court and client counselling competitions, receiving both individual speaker and team awards.  In her final year of law school, Jana was one of four students chosen to participate in the University of Toronto Grand Moot in front of a panel consisting of then Supreme Court Justices Iacobucci, Major and Binnie.

Jana is thankful for all of the opportunities she had to pursue her passion for advocacy and also for the opportunities that she had to be mentored by skilled and compassionate lawyers.  All of these experiences helped shape the lawyer she is today.

Following Law School, Jana had the privilege of clerking for the late Justice J. Edgar Sexton at the Federal Court of Appeal.  Justice Sexton was incredibly bright and kind, and made Jana feel valued and appreciated for her legal work.

After completing her clerkship, Jana received the Harold G. Fox Scholarship to travel to London, England for a year to train with barristers and complete advocacy training with the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple.  Jana thoroughly enjoyed her time in London, and in her time there, also developed a passion for travel.

Following her return from England, Jana practiced as a litigator in Toronto at one of Canada’s most prominent law firms.  During that time, Jana had the opportunity to represent clients before all levels of Court in Ontario and before the Supreme Court of Canada.

Following that, Jana decided to take some time away from legal practice to travel and pursue other passions. During her time away from legal practice, she travelled to various places around the world, including India, Nepal, Thailand, Hong Kong, Peru, Ecuador, Costa Rica and various places in the US and Europe.

After her travels, Jana returned to Saskatchewan and to the practice of law.  After practicing at a law firm in Regina, Saskatchewan, Jana followed her heart to open up her own practice as a sole practitioner.

Jana's practice is based on a deep commitment to be of service to her clients and to listen to and work in partnership with her clients towards the resolution of their legal issues.
